Cybersecurity Alert: Axel and Other Leaders Are Not Texting You for Gift Cards

Scams are increasing across the country and you may find yourself receiving an email or text from a company leader asking for help with gift card purchases or a need to change a payment process to help a customer. The fact is, it’s very unlikely that Axel, or any other company leader, is asking for help with these kinds of things. However, on the off chance they are, be sure to verify before you take action.

· Don’t reply back to the message, as it’s possible the message is being rerouted.

· Pick up the phone and call the individual or their assistant to verify the request.

· If you can’t get a hold of anyone, wait until you can confirm before taking additional action.

· Go to your boss and see if you can verify the request another way.

Phishing scams count on your sense of urgency to succeed. Taking a few moments to verify can keep you from making a costly mistake.
