Epicor Launched in the Peoria Melt Shop

New system expected to help minimize paperwork and provide up-to-date data

The Peoria Melt Shop became the first in the LIBERTY Steel U.S.A. family to try out Epicor earlier this month. Epicor is an Enterprise Resource Management (ERP) system that will help standardize how we do business. With this new software, we can now capture all melt shop manufacturing activity in a single integrated system.

“This phase of Epicor will streamline our reporting throughout the melt shop to keep all our data in one place,” said VP Steelworks Aaron Williams. “It will free up time for us to be away from our desks and out in the mill to help support the operation.”

The Epicor rollout will happen in four phases. In this first phase we expect to gain significant learnings to help us with the other three. One expected outcome is that everyone will be looking at the same data, which will avoid confusion and unnecessary work. Dashboards will be available to allow employees a glance at the data

so they can drill straight into an issue.

“As we implement Epicor at each location, we are learning better and simpler ways to transact,” said Chief Information Officer Ram Balasubramanian. “Implementing Epicor will drive flexibility, visibility, and automation that was not possible in the past. The great thing about Epicor is that it’s not an IT initiative—it’s a business process initiative. We’re excited about what we will be able to accomplish.”
