Why Do I Need to Wear All This?

Importance of Personal Protective Equipment

Safety glasses; check. Gloves; check. Earplugs; check. Hardhat; check. Steel-toed boots; check. Hi-visibility vest; check.

Some days it may feel like too much to put on each time you enter the mill, but there’s good reason for each item.

  • Safety glasses and face shields. Sparks are flying, cuts are being made, and machinery is constantly moving. Safety goggles prevent eye injuries from small to large items that may break free. Frequently, tasks are performed that need more protection to the face and that’s when we require full face shields.

  • Gloves. Potential hazards to hands and arms include cuts, punctures, burns, fractures and amputations. The right gloves for the job make a huge difference in protecting against these risks. Make sure you’re not compromising on the type of glove you use for the work you do.

  • Earplugs. Anyone with loss of hearing or tinnitus will tell you how awful it is. Earplugs provide protection from the loud humming and whirring noises that are part of the work we do.

  • Hardhat. With so many moving parts, you never know what could go wrong. Keep that noggin covered.

  • Metatarsal safety boots. LIBERTY provided enhanced protection to all U.S. employees by deploying company-supplied metatarsal footwear to employees. When something drops, don’t let your feet be the victim.

  • Hi-Visibility Clothing. If we can see you, we can go around you. If we can’t see you, injury is more likely.

Prevention now saves us from issues later. Be sure to use your PPE.
